Spar Cottage - Self Catering Cottage in Elgol, Isle of SkyeSpar Cottage is a newly built, family-owned, well-equipped bungalow in the small crofting village of Glasnakille, two miles from the village of Elgol, famous for it's spectacular views of the Cuillin mountains. Situated in a stunning clifftop location overlooking Loch Slapin with uninterrupted views towards the Sleat peninsula, the Small Isles and mainland Scotland.

An excellent base for families, walkers, climbers, photographers, artists, and wildlife enthusiasts. A short walk takes you down to the seashore and caves in the cliffs below, which includes the famous Spar Cave and Prince Charlie's Cave. The area is well known for sightings of golden eagles, sea eagles, dolphins, minke whales, basking sharks, otters and red deer.

The nearby village of Elgol has a village shop/cafe (for all your basic groceries plus local crafts and home made soup, filled rolls and delicious baking), a gallery coffee shop and a licensed restaurant. Boat trips leave from the pier throughout the day, weather permitting, sailing to Loch Coruisk in the heart of the Cuillins and if you wish to venture further afield, day trips to Small Isles are also available by small cruise boat or high power ribs. Elgol is also the starting point for coastal and inland walks into the Cuillin range.

Seventeen miles back along the scenic single-track road is the larger village of Broadford (second largest on the island) with a filling-station, supermarket, bank, post office, hospital, chemist and some lovely craft shops and galleries. You will also find a good selection of cafes, restaurants and pubs to choose from.


The cottage sleeps six in three bedrooms, one en-suite double, one twin and one room with bunk beds. It has a modern fully-fitted kitchen/diner with fridge/freezer, microwave, washing machine and tumble dryer. There is a comfortable sitting room with leather suite, freeview tv/dvd player, free wi-fi internet access and pay phone. Local information/leaflets and a selection of books and dvds are also provided. The main bathroom has a bath, and the en-suite a shower. The property has under floor heating powered by an electric air-source pump. A certified water supply is sourced from a natural spring and there is an enclosed garden and off road parking.

Guests are welcome to arrive after 4.00 p.m.

We ask that guests vacate rooms before 10.00 a.m.


Deposit of £100 to be paid on booking, balance to be paid 4 weeks prior to arrival. Late bookings to be paid in full.

Payment by bank transfer or cheque drawn on a British bank.

Location - How to Find Us

From the Skye bridge, take a right at the roundabout and drive approx 8 miles to Broadford. Drive through the village turning left at the Broadford Hotel (second left after the service station) onto the road to Elgol. It is approx 15 miles to Elgol where you drive through the village down towards the sea, taking a left at the main carpark to Glasnakille. On arriving in Glasnakille you take a right at the T junction and Spar Cottage is second cottage on the right.
