Located on the cliff at the head of Loch Bay on the beautiful Waternish peninsula Rainbow Cottage enjoys fantastic views along the loch, across the Minch and out to Harris and the Uists. Enjoy glorious sunsets, moonlit nights and star filled skies (with no light pollution). Lucky visitors may see birds of prey (including sea eagles) and a wide range of other seabirds such as kittiwake, guillemot and cormorant. We have seen porpoise and dolphin in the bay on occasion and a boat ride from the pier will provide the opportunity to see basking sharks, porpoise, dolphin and Minky whale in the deeper waters of the Minch.
Rainbow Cottage is an extended traditional croft house, a warm and comfortable home from home, fully equipped to allow you to enjoy your stay on the beautiful Isle of Skye and is an ideal holiday location for couples, families or a small group of friends. The cottage is located off the single track road into Waternish and is sheltered by a belt of trees so it feels very private and quiet.
'Judy Garland sang ?Somewhere over the rainbow is a place..? She was wrong, it was not over the rainbow, it was at the Rainbow. The cottage she never found. She got lost during her search but we were fortunate to find that
place where our dreams came true.'
The Konning Family - The Netherlands, August 2012.
'This has to be one of the best cottages we have stayed in, in all the years we have travelled around the Hebrides. From our arrival in thick sea mist and rain - but still having the most memorable sunset four hours later - to the incredible weather events through our two weeks.
And, what 'tops' all of these attractions, returning to 'that view' from the cottage - never the same twice - just fantastic!
We'd also like to say thank you, Meena and Chris for making our holiday so special with excellent recommendations of walks and cafes and not forgetting our cultural outings to see Sharon and the Reckless Angels in Glendale (it may have been a small audience but it was a lively one!) and the Pirates of Penzance! We'll be back!'
Fergus, Julie, Ewan and Andrew - Glasgow, July 2013.
The cottage can sleep up to four guests and has two bedrooms, one double bed and one twin bed (which can also be converted into a kingsize bed), two bathrooms (1 en-suite) with showers. The Kitchen is light and airy and well equipped with a gas hob, electric oven, fridge, dishwasher and microwave oven. Other facilities include a washing machine, tumbledryer and a freezer.
The lounge/dining room is tastefully furnished and has a TV and DVD, and a stereo CD system and the bedrooms are spacious and comfortable.

The nearby village of Dunvegan with its historic castle and grounds is only 6 miles away and has a grocers, garage, newsagent, cafe and bakery the Old School House Restaurant and a ?to die for? cake/chocolate shop (Janns) where everything is freshly made and mostly organic.
There are a number of galleries and other creative places to visit along the Waternish peninsula, not to mention the stunning walks all around. One favourite of visitors is the walk to the lighthouse at Waternish Point where sightings of whales, basking sharks and dolphins have been made.
Beyond the castle at Dunvegan is the famous Coral Beach, one of the few 'white sand' beaches on Skye and perfect for a day out from the cottage. Portree, the main settlement on Skye, is a 25 minute drive away and has a range of facilities and eating places, including the ever popular and funky Arriba cafe/bistro.
