Aird Cottage, North Duntulm is located near the most northerly point on the Isle of Skye's Trotternish Peninsula and is in a crofting community bordering the shores of Kilmaluag Bay. The Trotternish Peninsula has some of the most spectacular scenery on the island. The area is one of great natural and rugged beauty with views across to the mainland. Driving up to the cottage from Portree you will pass famous landmarks such the Old Man of Storr, the basalt rocks of Kilt Rock and the Quiraing.

Aird Cottage lies next to the sea shore and offers unrestricted sea views across Kilmaluag Bay to the mountains of the mainland and the bay of Gairloch. Originally built in 1920, the cottage is a stone built croft house which has been totally refurbished in 2009 and modernised to an excellent high standard. A sun lounge has been added to further enjoy the panoramic stunning views seen from cottage.

Aird Cottage is the ideal tranquil holiday base whether it be for pure relaxation or activity filled days. Guide books and maps are provided to help you choose your preference. Areas of interest in this locality alone include Kilt Rock, Trotternish Ridge, Quairaig, Duntulm Castle, The Skye Museum of Island Life, Flora MacDonald's grave and many galleries. The island is yours to explore.

The cottage is very well equipped and comprises of sun lounge, living room, kitchen, bathroom, 2 bedrooms (one double and a twin) and a large separate utility room. The cottage also has Wi-Fi.

Lounge

The cosy living room has 2 leather sofas and a leather swivel chair with foot stool for you to relax in front of the open solid fuel fire. The wall mounted TV/DVD player has Sky TV installed, and the stereo system has a number of ceiling mounted speakers situated on the ground floor. DVD's/CD's are available for your use.

Kitchen

The Oak Shaker style kitchen is fully equipped to meet all your needs during your stay. It includes integrated oven, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and a glass hob with extractor hood. A coffee maker is also provided for your morning coffee. All essentials are provided which include teas and coffee.The glass dining table sits 4 comfortably.

Sun Lounge

This room offers panoramic views to the sea and hills. There are 4 comfortable chairs. The coffee table holds a variety of books and board games and island information to help you enjoy your stay. The French doors open up to a patio area where you can sit and take in the stunning views at all times of the day.

Utility/Wet Gear Room

The large separate utility/wet gear room includes a sink, washing machine and tumble drier, iron and ironing board, and a freezer is also available for your use.



House Rules

The Cottage is available to let all year round. Sorry, strictly no smoking or pets. Children welcome (high chair available). Private parking for several cars.

Location - How to Find Us

From Fort William to the Skye Bridge

From Fort William the A82 passes through Spean Bridge and alongside Loch Lochy to Invergarry. At Invergarry turn left on to the A87 and continue your journey to Kyle of Lochalsh (Skye Bridge) passing through Glen Shiel, Shiel Bridge, Dornie and Balmacara. This route will also take you past the impressive Eilean Donan Castle.

From Inverness to the Skye Bridge

Leave Inverness on the A82 to Drumnadrochit and continue on to Invermoriston where you then turn right on to the A887. After only a few miles the road meets up with and becomes the A87 leading directly to Sheil Bridge as above.

Alternative route from Inverness

Leave Inverness to the A9 crossing the Kessock Bridge and continue to the Tore roundabout where you take the 2nd exit on to the A835 (Ullapool) route. Just through Garve turn left on to the A832 and continue to Achnasheen where you then turn left at the roundabout on to the A890 and continue for approximately 18 miles where a left turn is required (Kyle of Lochalsh) to remain on the A890. Your journey will then take you alongside Loch Carron until you meet the A87, turning right to Kyle of Lochalsh (Skye Bridge).

From the Skye Bridge

Follow the A87 across the Skye Bridge, turn right at the roundabout and continue on the A87 where the route will take you through Broadford and on to Portree. Here, you can take the A87 route to the port of Uig, follow the signs from Uig to Staffin (a right turn before reaching the Ferry terminal) and continue through Kilvaxter, Hungladder, Duntulm Castle and when passing Kilmaluag look for the Aird/An Aird signpost where you turn left and continue for less than a mile where you will see Aird cottage on your right. Alternatively, you may take the A855 from Portree via Staffin, continue past Flodigarry and when passing Balmaqueen look for the Aird/An Aird signpost and turn to your right. The Staffin route will take you past the Old Man of Storr, Lealt and Kilt Rock Falls.
