The Bedrooms

The Old Church comfortably accommodates up to eight people in four double bedrooms, each having the privacy and convenience of its own bathroom. The master bedroom en suite has a jacuzzi bath and power shower, the other bathrooms are all fitted with Mira power showers. The master bedroom and the two twin rooms are located on the first floor, the second double room with en suite is conveniently located on the ground floor.

The Kitchen

The solid wood, fully fitted kitchen has been equipped with everything guests could want. The oil-fired Rayburn provides a constant supply of hot water as well as giving visitors the pleasure of using a traditional oven without the hard work of stocking it with coal every morning (central heating throughout ensures the cottage is cosy and welcoming throughout the year). The kitchen is also equipped with a separate convection oven/microwave and a large larder style fridge.

The washing machine, tumble dryer and large freezer are all to be found in the separate utility room which has access to the rear of the house where there is a washing line. The utility is also stocked with an iron and ironing board.

The Other Accommodation

The spacious front entrance hall has plenty of room for storing and changing into outdoor clothes. The downstairs cloakroom is also located here.

The family dining hall, with its large hand crafted table, is an excellent setting for eating and entertaining. Whilst most rooms in The Old Church boast fantastic views, it is the sitting room that has the finest, with a large picture window giving uninterrupted views of the world famous Blaven Ridge. The sitting room has large comfortable sofas, a real flame wood burner style stove, a good quality CD system, LCD satellite TV and a DVD player. A selection of CDs and DVDs are provided but guests are welcome to bring along their favourites. The Old Church also has a good choice of maps and guide books as well as a good collection of novels and board games. There is a separate reading room which also has comfortable seating. This provides a second area to read and relax in or simply reflect on days past and those to come.

The Garden

Possibly the best view of Blaven on the whole island can be seen from the large decked area which runs along the entire front of the cottage. There is plenty of seating, a large table and a BBQ so whether it's a morning coffee, an evening glass of wine or a full BBQ you want you can enjoy it accompanied by these stunning views.

The Old Church has a securely fenced garden making it safe for children. There is off road parking to the front of the property.

Location - How to Find Us

By Road

The Old Church is situated on the edge of the small village of Torrin. Torrin is 6 miles along the B8083 which runs the 14 miles from Broadford to Elgol. The journey takes you from Broadford, with all of the facilities you'll need - petrol, supermarkets, pubs and restaurants, a post office and should the need arise a small hospital with A and E department - to a land that remains virtually untouched by man, in only fifteen minutes.

Although Skye is an island, the Skye bridge, which is now toll free, makes the journey from Kyle of Lochalsh on the mainland, to Kyleakin on Skye, simple. Once on the island turn right at the roundabout and travel 8 miles on the A87 until you reach Broadford. After passing the supermarket and petrol station in Broadford turn left on the B8083, signposted to Elgol. Carry on for seven miles and you'll reach the village of Torrin. Continue through Torrin to the far side of the village where you will find The Old Church set back from the road on the right hand side. It is the last house on the right before the road drops down to Loch Slapin.

By Boat

Caledonian MacBrayne run a regular ferry service from Mallaig to Armadale on Skye. When you arrive at Armadale take the A851 signed to Broadford and then follow the directions above.

During the summer a second ferry route opens between Glenelg and Kylerhea on Skye. The popularity of this route is mainly due to the beautiful drive to Glenelg through the Highlands.

By Train

Kyle of Lochalsh on the mainland has good train connections with Inverness and the rest of the country. From Kyle you can either take one of the many buses to Skye or pick up a hire car, from as little as £23 each day.

By Air

It has become increasingly popular to fly to Inverness and hire a car to make the 2½ hour journey to Skye. A number of carriers, including Ryan Air and British Airways, fly to Inverness from regional airports as well as London. Once you arrive, car hire is available from as little as £23 a day.
