Welcome to Rainbow Cottage, Waternish, Isle of Skye |
Located on the cliff at the head of Loch Bay on the beautiful Waternish peninsula Rainbow Cottage enjoys fantastic views along the loch, across the Minch and out to Harris and the Uists. Enjoy glorious sunsets, moonlit nights and star filled skies (with no light pollution). Lucky visitors may see birds of prey (including sea eagles) and a wide range of other seabirds such as kittiwake, guillemot and cormorant. We have seen porpoise and dolphin in the bay on occasion and a boat ride from the pier will provide the opportunity to see basking sharks, porpoise, dolphin and Minky whale in the deeper waters of the Minch.
Rainbow Cottage is an extended traditional croft house, a warm and comfortable home from home, fully equipped to allow you to enjoy your stay on the beautiful Isle of Skye and is an ideal holiday location for couples, families or a small group of friends. The cottage is located off the single track road into Waternish and is sheltered by a belt of trees so it feels very private and quiet.
Comments from Guests
'Meena and Chris, thank you for the experience of such a wonderful location to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. You are a kind and generous couple who's welcome and consideration is warmly and genuinely given. You have not just provided holiday accomodation but a home which for us is almost impossible to wrench ourselves away from. This exceptional cottage provided everything required should you not wish to step out across its threshold for the duration of your stay. Each time we went out around this lovely isle we found that we were magically drawn back to the cottage to be consumed by the vista from the lounge; the picture it creates is alive and real, the ever changing hues and shades will forever live in our memories. We have drunk wine and drank in the views your wonderful home has offered, it has touched our hearts like no other place.......'. Kay & Graham - Staffordshire, March 2012.
'Our first visit to Rainbow Cottage but it won't be our last. Skye has so much to offer, to see and to do, that we will be back - and why stay anywhere else? Rainbow Cottage has the best situation, views and comforts; surely. Rainbow Cottage exceeded our expectations, it has been so much more than we could hope for. The kitchen was well stocked with all the tools we needed and the comforts of the rest of the cottage made it a joy to arrive 'home to', relaxing in style after long days exploring. Clever planting outside accentuating the dramatic views and allowing a full and glorious aspect from the superb windows. Went for superb drives and walks - recommend Waternish Point lighthouse- we saw porpoise, minke whale, seals, gannets and gulls and skuas; all in one afternoon! If Meena offers a home-cooked meal, take her up on it! - you'll be glad you did - a delicious (and cosy) meal'. Colin & Vanessa - Perthshire, July, 2011.

Our Location
Rainbow Cottage is quiet and private but has easy access to the award winning Stein Inn, Skye’s oldest pub, and Lochbay Seafood Restaurant, both about a mile away, down by the lochside.
The nearby village of Dunvegan with its historic castle and grounds is only 6 miles away and has a grocers, garage, newsagent, cafe and bakery the Old School House Restaurant and a ‘to die for’ cake/chocolate shop (Janns) where everything is freshly made and mostly organic.
There are a number of galleries and other creative places to visit along the Waternish peninsula, not to mention the stunning walks all around. One favourite of visitors is the walk to the lighthouse at Waternish Point where sightings of whales, basking sharks and dolphins have been made.
Beyond the castle at Dunvegan is the famous Coral Beach, one of the few 'white sand' beaches on Skye and perfect for a day out from the cottage. The wonderful Cuillin Mountains with a wide range of climbs and walks are only a 30 minute drive away and the dramatic and beautiful Quiraing and Trotternish Ridge are also only a 30 minute drive away.
Portree, the main settlement on Skye, is a 25 minute drive away and has a range of facilities and eating places, including the ever popular and funky Arriba cafe/bistro. The Aros centre can also be found in Portree and throughout the year the centre has a range of cultural events including Scottish traditional music and dance and regular film shows.
