![]() Walking |
The Isle of Skye is famous for its rugged landscape and beautiful environment. Its mountains, rivers, waterfalls and sea lochs, offer peace and tranquillity on a history-steeped island. For the more adventurous, these surroundings are perfect for hill walking, climbing, fishing, shooting, golfing, horse riding, sailing and canoeing, all of which are available within a short drive from the cottages.
In addition to the physical activities on offer on Skye there are numerous cultural and craft based centres to visit. The Aros Centre in Portee offers an insight into the dramatic history of the highlands, while the home of the Clan MacLeod and the present chief reside in the spectacular Dunvegan Castle. Among the numerous other attractions to visit are Talisker whisky distillery and the The Clan Donald Centre, which has award-winning gardens.
The wide range of craft centres includes potteries, knitwear, a Celtic jeweller, a tannery as well as several artists' studios showing the spectacular Skye scenery through painting, drawing, sculpting and photography. One of Skye's craft shops has even been voted "Best Craft Shop in Scotland".
Complementing the amazing scenery on Skye, is the equally impressive wildlife. The landscape is home to a wealth of wildlife and on the island there is the opportunity for bird watching, marine wildlife cruises, seal watching boat trips and even an otter sanctuary. On lucky occasions even rarer wildlife is seen such as Golden eagles, whales, porpoise and Adders.
