Coolin View Guest House is a beautiful building dating circa 1920. The house is located in Bosville Terrace and has spectacular views over Portree Harbour. It is located right in the centre of Portree (the islands capital), and is an ideal base for your holiday in Skye.
Portree is the main town on Skye. Its name comes from the Gaelic Port-an-Righ, which translates as "King's Port" and dates to a visit by King James V, plus a fleet of warships, in 1540, to persuade the island clans to support him. The centre of life in Portree has to be its harbour. This is in a superb natural setting, being surrounded by high ground and cliffs. The peninsula to the south is unflatteringly knows as "The Lump", and once provided a spectacular setting for public hangings on the island. Today the harbour continues to be used by fishing boats, but is also home to other vessels, from pleasure craft to the lifeboat.
North of Portree is the spectacular scenery of the Trotternish Ridge - wild country dominated by weird and wonderful rock formations such as the Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock and the truly extraordinary pinnacles of the Quiraing. Truelly worth a vist.
The influence of the sea is also never far away (you are never more than 11 miles from sea) with sea fishing and a wide range of other watersports available on Skye, (including diving and kayaking) Wildlife cruises sail from various locations from which you might be able to spot seals, lovable otters, great golden eagles or even rare and mighty sea eagles.

The house has a mixture of twin, double family and single rooms, the majority of which have stunning sea views over Portree Harbour. All rooms are en-suite with private television and tea and coffee making facilities.
Guests also have use of a lounge area in which to sit and relax or to sit and plan the days adventure.
Breakfast at Coolin View is served between 8.00 and 9.30 with a choice of breakfast to suit all tastes. Parking is freely available.
Tariff/Prices
Prices range from £25 per person low season, to £37 per person high season.
Season
Coolin View is open all year round with the exception of Christmas.
We are no smoking establishment. Children are welcome.
Directions to the Isle of Skye and Portree
By Road
If you come via the Skye Bridge, continue along the A87 to Portree (34 miles), then take the A855 to Staffin. Continue along the A855 through Portree (0.5 miles). You will see the Coolin View on your left.
If you come via the Glenelg-Kylerhea ferry, take the minor road north from Kylerhea until it joins the A87 (7 miles), then turn left along the A87 and continue as above.
By Ferry/Road
If you come via the Mallaig-Armadale ferry, take the A851 north from Armadale (signposted Broadford) until it joins the A87 (15 miles), then turn left along the A87 and continue as above.
By Bus
Citylink buses run to Portree from Glasgow, Fort William, Inverness, Kyle of Lochalsh, with connections from all parts of Scotland.
By Train
Scotrail will get you as far as Kyle of Lochalsh or Mallaig. From Kyle take the Citylink bus as above. From Mallaig take the ferry to Armadale, then a Highland Country Bus or a Skyeways Bus to Portree.
By Air
The nearest airport is Inverness, served by British Regional Airways. (Live arrival and departures boards at Inverness Flights). From there get the Citylink bus as above, or a train to Kyle and then the Citylink bus. Or hire a car in Inverness. If you arrive by air at Glasgow or Edinburgh you can hire a car from Easycar or 1car1.com.
